The Issue at Hand
As part of its 150th anniversary celebration, this Chicago-based global law firm wanted to showcase not only its growth and evolution but also its leadership in such areas as diversity, technology, and public service.
The Solution
A 240-page, four-color book complete with original illustrations and both archival and modern photography, organized both chronologically and thematically. While a story-telling narrative runs through the entire book, the main text is supplemented throughout by sidebars, timelines, and other graphics that enhance the general coverage, accommodate extraneous but still interesting material, and provide multiple “points of entry” for readers scanning what is essentially a coffee-table publication.
The Process
Working from a manuscript originally commissioned by the firm, Leverage Media’s writers and editors reorganized, recast, repackaged, and rewrote the copy and collaborated with the firm’s marketing department to identify sources of archival art and photography. LM’s design, which evolved from the book’s editorial architecture, was created to facilitate use of both sidebars and photography, as well as to differentiate between chronological and thematic coverage. American Lawyer Media handled manufacturing.
